The European Commission (Directorate-General for Research & Innovation) is organising this half day event (14:00 - 17:00) which brings together policy makers, key stakeholders from the private sector, civil society representatives, scientists, advisors and high level representatives from the IPCC in order to present the key findings of the IPCC 5th Assessment Report (AR5) on climate change adaptation and mitigation, discuss their implications for policy making and for economic and societal sectors, while identifying challenges and opportunities for the future.
The Commissioner for Research and Innovation, Ms Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, will open the event. High level representatives from the IPCC will provide key note speeches and present the key messages from the AR5 WG II* and WG III** Reports. The opening session will be followed by a Panel discussion. The Panel will include the Commissioner for Climate Action, Ms Connie Hedegaard, the Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Ms Kristalina Georgieva, representatives of the business sector and experts from international organisations.
