National Training Workshop on Green Economy Simulation Analysis
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine
Event details
Description
The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), together with Ukraine’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, will hold a national training workshop on GreenEconomy assessment. The workshop will train key economists in how to concretelydevelop green economy scenarios so that they can explain to decision-makers thepotential return on investment in greener sectors and the benefits of greening Ukraine’s economy.
The workshop will introduce methodologies and tools, including different types of simulationmodels, and plan the steps that need to be taken for conducting such assessments.
The meeting is being held as part of an EC-financed programme, “Greening Economies inthe Eastern Neighbourhood” (EaP GREEN), launched last year. The programme is jointly conducted by EU, OECD, UNECE, UNEP and UNIDO. It aims to help six Eastern Europeancountries move towards a green economy by showing them how to decouple economicgrowth from environmental degradation and resource depletion. The programme responds to commitments that countries made during the EaP Warsaw Summit in September 2011.Each organisation is working in its area of expertise to assist the EaP countries to strengthenthe analysis, policy instruments and capacities needed to make the necessary transition. Many opportunities exist to do this at low cost; the economic model previously followed in these countries relied excessively on the consumption of energy and natural resources, and generated high levels of pollution.

The meeting will be open for media representatives during its morning session on 10 April starting at 9.30.
The meeting will take place at the Scientific and Research InstituteEconomics (Blvd. Druzhby Narodov, 28, Small conference hall, 5th floor, room.517). The working languages of the meeting are English and Russian.
