Discussion details

Young Africa stands for empowerment of young people in Africa, especially for the disadvantaged and most vulnerable among them. That’s why YA has hostels for orphan girls for instance. That’s also why they put in lots of effort to make our training centres accessible to youths with disabilities. Just educating them with skills is not enough. Employers need to be convinced that young people with a disability ánd a professional competency are just skilled workers. Often they are even stronger and more motivated; after all, they have overcome so many hurdles to get educated. So, Young Africa made a video, financed by the European Union, to show what trained youths are capable of in spite of, or maybe even thanks to, their disability. Because at Young Africa, they believe it’s more interesting to focus on what you CAN do than on what you can’t.

This video is part of a programme, financed by the European Union in Mozambique, to make vocational training accessible for youths from rural areas and youth with disabilities. In partnership with Light for the World, Young Africa aims to train 1000 young people, of whom 250 with disabilities, in skills for employability and entrepreneurship. Hostels to house youths from rural areas during their courses are part of the project too. The programme takes place at the Young Africa training centres in Beira and Dondo.
